CHAPTER 5

Chapter 5   August 18, 2018     To the next queer kid,     The party was lit af. Pardon my language, but that’s how these rich kids would describe it. And I would agree. I told you in my last that most probably my plan to avenge my parents will change because I see a more valuable target. Let me tell you the story. So, after  Agatha’s announcement last week, I told myself that I need to get her attention. I need to know her and her relationship with her father, Deogracias Silvio. Is she aware of the monstrosity of her father? I bet not. I bet she’s that innocent daughter who doesn’t know a thing about the activities of her parents. I observed her. In our classes, she seems to be a normal rich girl. She always speaks up when asked. She volunteers sometimes, but not to the point that our classmates would smart-shame her. It’s like Agatha is seen as a higher being. Everybody seems to respect her. Well, that’s because she’s the principal’s daughter. So, no one would really dare to touch or harm her. She has two bodyguards that follow her everywhere she goes. But Agatha always makes sure that these guards would maintain a safe distance away from her so she’ll seem like a normal girl on the campus. I bet she hates being guarded. But I can’t let myself to sympathize with her. She’s my target. I am planning to befriend her and court her for me to get closer with Deo Silvio. I doubt if she knows the feeling of having his parents killed, of living on her own, of literally selling her own body just to make ends meet. And now, it’s all coming back to me now. All my sacrifices to get here in The Academy again. I still have my bruises on my body and in my arms. Those are from street fights and accidents I have experienced in the past. Some are from my clients whose kink and fetish is violence. I have experienced being slapped in the face while having s*x because that’s what my client want. I remember crying while he was inside me. I remember his face laughing while doing it. I cleared my head. All I have right now is anger, this deep loath to the Silvios. They will pay for what they did.     When I reached the venue, everybody was there. The program was starting already. I was a bit late because I had a wardrobe malfunction, so I needed to go to a local tailor to fix the tear in my pants. It’s not bad. I still look good. I made sure that I will be noticed not because of what I wore, but because of my face and demeanor. I was wearing a three-piece white tuxedo and pants. I look like I am straight from a 1940s Hollywood film. My hair and makeup are on point. I even asked the local makeup artist to put fake facial hair to complete the look. I gained attention when I entered the hall. I can see pairs of eyes sizing me up, it’s like as if they were asking who I was. I went to the table where my classmates were. Some said hello and some didn’t even bother to look. There six seats per table. And this table I belong to was composed of four guys whom I believe are friends. They are the group in class who love anime and those Japanese stuff. Well, birds with the same feather flock together. They didn’t even noticed that I sit beside them. The rest of our classmates are sitting beside their dates. The one seat belongs to Bryan, that kid who has an obvious admiration for Agatha. He was the scholar and the transferee. I wonder why he’s not making friends to anyone in our class. He seems cool and smart. He was always on the top whenever we had our quizzes and stuff. Bryan looks good tonight. I even recognized his coat. I saw that in the thrift shop when I bought mine. Maybe he’s also not that rich. He’s not like the others. But he’s not my business tonight, so I shifted my attention to Agatha. She was sitting on the VIP table along with The Academy’s officials. Sitting beside him is his father. I studied his face, that old and wrinkly I have been itching to destroy. I calmed myself. This is not the night, Gab. From what I have seen, they are not that close. It’s like those what we see on TV , that maybe Agatha also has daddy issues because of her father is too busy making himself rich and all that. But I can see how Deo is taking care of Agatha. He has been eyeing her bodyguards and has been whispering to them to never let their attention get away from her daughter. He has that protective-to-his-daughter aura. Well, I didn’t ask someone to be my date because my eye and attention was focused to Agatha. She has a date and I don’t care. I need to be one of her dances tonight for me to get to know her without really being suspicious. So many people gave their own speeches about the party and The Academy. They have been reiterating how prestigious their school is and how successful their students have become after attending this school. Deo also gave a speech, and I believe they have gone home after that. Maybe he trusted Agatha’s bodyguards to do their jobs for the night. There were also performances from different local and international artists. I don’t know any of these music artists. Was 2 years really that long that I have no idea now what rich kids are up to? The students really enjoyed the performances, and they all partied hard with these artists. Of course, there will be part of the party for mellow and sweet music. It’s gonna be the time for partners and date to dance. I scanned the crowd. I really have no plans on asking anyone but Agatha. So I just drank my wine while I waited for my chance. It seems like every guy in The Academy wanted to dance with her. But not anyone had the guts to even approach her. Well, not me. What I will do is not about me. I saw Bryan at the corner of the hall. It seems like he was also waiting for his chance to dance with Agatha. He was looking straight to her direction. Since I was getting bored of all the shenanigans of these spoiled brats, I approached him with an extra shot glass of vodka in my hand. “You wanna dance with Agatha?” I asked him. I raised my hand to offer the glass of vodka. He reacted like he was caught in the act of doing something malicious. He was cute. He stared weirdly at the glass. “Y-yes,” he said. It seems like he’s intimidated by my presence. I am few inches taller than him. “N-no, thanks.” “I insist,” I said, offering him the glass. “Trust me. It’ll make you braver.” I almost forgot that I needed to talk to Bryan because I was concerned with how people at The Academy see him. I sort of want to warn him. It’s no secret to me that The Academy is equipped with security cameras. My parents said that it’s one of the tools that the authorities used to cleanse the school, to determine and eliminate the queers as if it is some sort of a deadly virus. I hated that idea. But I haven’t really proven that speculation because as far as I know, there were no cases of authorities in The Academy extracting or eliminating queers. But I thought which parents would allow that, right? These are sons and daughters of the most powerful people in the country. So, maybe the process is in secret? Or do they get a free pass because they are rich? I am not sure. I remember my clients, though. I was not sure if Bryan was nervous because I was with him or because he was still thinking of dancing with Agatha. He looked at me before he grabbed the shot glass. He drank it immediately. He acted like he was about to vomit, “It tastes like,” and he crumpled his face. I laughed. He also smiled at me, blushing. “Gabriel Diaz,” I offered my hand. It seems like I am making friends for the first time. And it feels good to say my real name. I was used on using different names and aliases because of my previous jobs. “Gab, for short.” He took my hand. “Bryan Agoncillo.” His hands were cold. “Call me Bry.” We leaned on the corner of the hall while everyone was having a good time. We were watching them. I drank my champagne. He was still staring at Agatha’s direction. “You really like her, huh?” Please say yes. Please don’t be queer. Please don’t be like me. He shrugged. “I just want to dance with her.” He looked at me like he was looking for assurance or courage, but he immediately took back his gaze toward Agatha. “Then go on. She may be waiting for you.” “I-I don’t know if I can.” “I think you need another glass of vodka.” “N-no. I’m ok. Really.” The thing is, I really want him to dance with Agatha. I’m rooting for him. So, I need to make a move to convince him. “Okay, let’s make a deal,” I said. Suddenly, he’s interested. “If I got to dance with her before she gets another glass of champagne, you’ll dance with her.” His eyebrows met. He looked at me, trying to find his advantage in the deal. But I smiled at him. I looked straight in his eyes, tried to study his being. “Deal?” “Uhm, sure.” In a matter of seconds, I was already approaching Agatha. I saw her approaching the bar. I looked behind to see Bryan and gave him an ok sign. “Hi, Ms. Agatha? May I?” I offered my hand with a slight bow. She was about to request her drink to the waiter. She’s caught off guard. “Uhm, sure,” she said. I looked again at Bryan again in the corner. I can almost see his eyes full of envy. “You look so beautiful tonight, Ms. Student Regent,” I complimented her. I take her in the middle of the dance floor. The hall was filled with mellow music from an orchestra. “Stop. Just call me Agatha,” she said with a confident smile. I bet you can not beat her in a staring game. “You’re Gabriel Diaz, right?” “How do you know my name?” She knows me. Maybe she has been eyeing me. I felt confident. “Of course, I know you,” she said. It felt like it means something. “What do you mean?” “Uhm, nothing,” she said. “Of course, we’re in the same class.” She lied. And then I remembered my plans. It’s time to make my move. I saw her two bodyguards in a safe distance. They were looking at us. I didn’t mind them. “So, do you have someone right now?” “Do you mean my date? Yeah. He’s right there.” I saw a handsome guy at the corner. He was from the other section. “So, are you guys dating?” She laughed. “No, we’re childhood friends. I have known him since we were four. Our parents are close friends and business partners.” Close friends. Business partners. I kept my cool after hearing those words. If she only knew what happened to her parents’ other close friends and business partners. I suddenly thought about why Agatha and I never met when we were little. Well, I knew his dad. But Agatha was almost like imprisoned to their house. So, yeah. Deo never let his daughter to go outside. It was too dangerous, especially for a man like him. After a few minutes, I bid my farewell to Agatha. I got what I needed to know, and I already made a good impression to her. We can be friends. She felt comfortable with me. I approached Bryan and told him to do it while he has time Go get her. Show those cameras that they are not what they think you are, I thought.     Queerly yours, Gab
