Patricia a South African immigrant migrates to California for greener pastures. As a fresh young economics graduate, she seeks gainful employment in her new city, hoping to further her education in the long run. Squatting with her already-married high school friend Lily, she manages to survive her first few weeks in a new country. Lily eventually gets fed up with her friend’s dependency and urges her to look for a menial job to contribute to the home. Patricia begins to work as a waitress in a coffee shop while awaiting a career opportunity. Her hustle continues smoothly until Lily’s husband Tam begins making advances toward her. Suspecting this, Lily sends her friend out of her home without giving them a chance for a fair hearing. Thrown out on the streets, Patricia goes to see her colleague Susan at the coffee shop, a young woman of about the same age who accommodates her temporarily. All goes well until one day Patricia has to deliver coffee and pastries at a construction company. Accidentally, she bumps into fate, spilling hot espresso and late on his million-dollar suit.
