Taylor and Charlie are twins, both have been close since they lost their father and focused on taking care of their widow mom. Even though physically they are identical, their personalities and interests are widely different, Taylor is relaxed and easygoing, and very popular with girls, but he doesn't take them very seriously, on the other hand, his brother Charlie is methodical and disciplined, he's a scientist, and he thinks that women are a distraction from his academic goals.
When they were young they met Lea, an artist who is also a dreamer and an activist, she worked with Charlie on social projects, Taylor met her later and thought that she was weird but inexplicably he feels attracted to her, he tried to keep this in secret but his brother figured it out and encouraged him to give her a try, but after years of hesitation, in their last high school year she disappears mysteriously with her family without a trace or an explanation about it.
Years pass by, Taylor is now a detective, he works with his brother Charlie who is a forensic specialist, after their's mom dead they are closer than ever, and share an apartment downtown. Charlie still believes that women are a waste of time and Taylor is not good at relationships because of his fear of commitment, so for different reasons both remain single and share an apartment downtown.
Something else that they have in common besides the flat they share is that both are loyal, brutally honest, and fiercely dedicated to their work and justice ideals.
One day Taylor recognized Lea in a gig, she's a professional singer now, and despite his commitment issues he thinks that he won't miss this new opportunity and is decided to not let her go again.
The next day working on a case, Taylor found out evidence that could lead to uncovering a criminal organization dedicated to human traffic, he wanted to keep going with the investigation but he got shot just after arranging a date with Lea, who felt betrayed when he didn't show up on their date.
Taylor completely appalled learns soon that he is stuck between the dead and the living, hopeless he just wants to say goodbye to his brother and his beloved Lea, before crossing the "big gates," is there where he finds out her biggest secret and realizes that she's the only one who can see and talk to him.
He needs her to figure out his purpose so that he can accomplish the goal that will let him rest in peace or fight for keeping himself alive, but as hard as both choices seem to be, he will soon find extra help from unexpected allies that might make the difference between live and success or death and failure.
