Margarete de Beer is a quiet 15-year-old girl who lives under the reign of a super fundamentalist government who call themselves the Disciples. The Disciples overthrew the government of the Republic of South Africa and it was renamed The Republic of Ouranos. This organization took the country by force and stripped women of all their rights. They run the country using fear as a tool to get the people to obey and submit to their teachings and beliefs. Margarete, however, firmly believes in the teachings of The Disciples. She and her family are high class citizens, with her father being part of the founders of The Republic of Ouranos. They follow the rules, go to church and praise the government. Margarete's life is turned upside down when she learns she is to be married to a General of The Army. Her rank will change, peoples expectations of her will change and so will her attitude. During this marriage she discovers the cruelty of the government and how things were before they forcibly took the country. She then joins an underground resistance movement who call themselves SOS. The movement is set on taking the country back and restoring the country to what it once was; a safe space for people to be human. Joining this organization helped Margarete realize how smart and brave she is. She is now set on helping the women regain their rights and holding the government responsible for the crimes they have committed. She does this despite the inner conflict she has in her heart regarding her religion and relationship with God.
