Chapter one
It all started with a bottle of coke
The cafeteria buzzed with laughter and chat
as I made my way towards the table in the
farthest corner, dubbed "Loser ville". My best
friend, Pauline Rush, waved over to and
pointed towards her brother, Jay Rush. I
raised my eyebrows and shook my head firmly.
Jay was kind of my crush but I would never
have the guts to talk to him, even though he
was friendly enough to me.
I went over and sat down at the table and
soon my other best friend's I'd I must say, gay
best friend's Ethan White slapped his blue lunch
tray on the table and sat down suddenly,
making the whole table rattle.
''What's up with lover boy,'' Pauline teased,
knowing about Ethan's crush on James, a
straight guy in our class. Pauline was a serious
looking girl, with a light brown complexion that
I envied and pin straight corns colored hair.
''Don't talk about him,'' he grumbled. ''I
found out that he was straight today,'' he
chastised, venomously glaring at Ellie, who
apparently liked James and he liked her back.
Pauline and I knew about this but we
preferred that he find about this on his own.
''Aw, I'm sure there are plenty of other great
guys out there,'' Pauline comforted, rubbing
his arm.
Suddenly, I felt a shadow behind me. ''Hey,
guys,'' a familiar voice said--a voice which I
loved. It was Jay Rush. He put a big hand on
my shoulder and I swiveled my head, turning
around my body to face him. ''Bri, Mrs.
Johnson told me to give you these revision
papers.''
''T-thanks,'' I stuttered, nervously taking the
bundle of papers from him. Just his smile
