Zain is a 17-year-old Malay boy who lives in a poor neighbourhood in Kuala Lumpur. He dreams of becoming a writer, but his family and society expect him to pursue a more practical career. One night, he meets Lily, a 31-year-old sex worker who works at a nearby hotel. She is a Chinese immigrant who fled from an abusive husband and a life of poverty in her homeland. She has a terminal illness and knows she doesn’t have much time left. Zain is fascinated by her stories, her wisdom, and her beauty. He decides to write a novel based on her life, hoping to give her a voice and a legacy. As their friendship deepens, they face many challenges and dangers, such as Lily’s violent clients, Zain’s conservative family, and the social stigma of their relationship. They also discover the power of love, hope, and dreams in the face of adversity.
