She stood still, her breath caught in her throat, as she faced the storm in his delinquent brown eyes. His body leaned over hers, one hand on either side of the rail, caging her in. The air between them was thick, almost too heavy to breathe. Her eyes stayed locked on his, unwilling, yet unable, to look away.
The closer he leaned, the more violently her heart pounded.
She bit her lower lip, nerves twitching just beneath her skin. No matter how far she tried to run, he always found his way back to her.
“Why do you keep chasing after me?” she asked quietly, barely above a whisper. Her voice trembled with restraint, as if speaking too loudly might break the fragile tension holding her together.
He didn’t answer. His silence was louder than any reply. His eyes remained fixed on her face—cold, unreadable, unrelenting.
“Do you like me?” she pushed further, ignoring the disinterest written across his expression. She needed something—anything.
He gave a soft, dismissive sound—a tut—before reaching out to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear, twirling it between his fingers. The gesture was casual, but his nearness made her pulse spike.
“Don’t you think ‘like’ is a bit heavy, Tinkerbell?” he murmured, voice low and unbothered. The nickname slipped from his lips like smoke, both mocking and strangely affectionate.
He leaned in closer. Close enough for her to feel the heat of him. Close enough to undo her.
Yet his eyes remained empty. Dark. Emotionless.
She swallowed hard, unsure what stirred behind those eyes.
“It’s strange,” he added, his voice softer now. “But you’re the first woman I’ve ever acknowledged as a lady, Snow White.”

She was the good girl. Quiet. Reserved. She lived in the background, barely noticed by the world around her. There was no deep bond with her family—no warm moments, no safety.
And for a while, she thought she’d found love. Someone who saw her. Someone worth holding on to.
But he broke her.
And when he left, he didn’t just take her love. He took her self-worth with him.
She hated herself after that.
And just as she started picking up the pieces—
Zachary Gonzalez walked into her life.
Mysterious. Magnetic. Dangerous.
And everything she shouldn’t want.
