LOST the yellow
Updated at Dec 10, 2025, 07:34
Enison begins counting her dried fingers, making sure she hasn’t lost count of the number six — the six letters that spell yellow. She smiles, noticing the bruise on her palm. Those days were bright, fun, and even though she was broken, there was a spark of happiness whenever she looked at the sun.A few yards away, she muttered, “Shame,” a little too loud.“Who still wants this beautiful lady with a curvy body?”Jaila walked past her and handed her a brown envelope.“What’s in there, Jaila?” she asked, smiling sheepishly.“I need not say,” Jaila replied, still staring at Enison.“I hope this time it’s the positive news we’ve all been expecting,” Enison said, still hesitating with the envelope. There was a silence across the room — a silence so thick it could boil an egg.“This should be good, Jaila. So why are you moody?” Enison asked.“Well… it came when it wasn’t needed,” Jaila said quietly.Enison took a deep breath, steadying herself. She looked at Jaila, seeing the fear and shame flickering across her friend’s face.“It’s okay, Jaila,” she said softly, her voice calm but firm. “Being pregnant… it’s not a crime. It can happen at any age. And if you want, you can go to him… beg him… explain everything.”Jaila’s shoulders shook, and tears welled up. “I… I’m sorry, Enison,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “For everything I’ve done… everything I’ve caused.”Then it hit Enison — she was about to lose her first love to her first friend. Her chest tightened, but she forced a small, bitter smile.“I told you,” she said lightly, masking the ache in her voice, “we were never meant to be. And if you’ll excuse me… I need to be somewhere soon.”
