Magnolia “Mags” Bennett has always been too loud, too reckless, and too strange for the tiny Alabama town she grew up in. After years of drifting between cities and failed relationships, she returns home broke and heartbroken to help run her aunt’s roadside diner. The diner sits directly across from the auto shop owned by Beau Calloway—her childhood best friend who hasn’t smiled since his father disappeared fifteen years ago. Everyone assumes Beau is cold. Mags knows he’s just exhausted from carrying his broken family on his back. When a human skeleton is discovered beneath the old diner during renovations, the entire town begins unraveling. Especially after evidence suggests Beau’s missing father may not have left voluntarily. And suddenly Mags and Beau are forced to confront the thing neither of them ever admitted - they stayed in love with each other the whole time.
