Wrapped loveUpdated at Dec 1, 2025, 09:55
Ayoma Shuuji, the main character of the book, travels to a frozen town. In the same place a relative of his died, where he participated in the funeral. He did not care too much for such a cause. Taking the train to the center of the town, his gaze falls on a beautiful woman, a caretaker and worker at the Okyia. He spent days, up to months, getting to know her. One cold night, the woman came drunk while sobbing at his door. She told Ayoma about her struggles. After a series of more activities together over the course of another two weeks, the man decided he was going to court her. For the next few weeks he acted strangely. He was much more arrogant and harsh with her. He slowly became obsessed with the woman, stalking every move of hers. The poor woman, driven mad by his persistence, suggested, with sugar-coated words, that they should end together so both his and her suffering would disappear. He was enchanted by the idea, wanting to prove his love all over again.
Suffocated by the cold waves of the ocean, the woman died, while Shuuji was sent to the hospital and later on to a mental asylum. Once healthy, he became depressed. Once depressed, he became addicted to morphine. The young pharmacist, who always forgave his debt to the pharmacy, reminded him of his lost love. The man, blinded by loneliness, walked to the house of his dead partner, where he found a little journal. She used to describe her everyday life—nothing much. Until he skipped pages to the part dedicated to him. Written in hate and fear, he didn't understand. Mad, he burned down the house along with the old man still living inside. And, out of guilt, he hung himself.
