The story takes a tragic turn when Heer is married off to another man, leaving Ranjha heartbroken. Ranjha, unable to bear the separation, becomes a wandering ascetic and renounces worldly attachments. He travels to Heer's village and encounters her again, where their love is rekindled. However, their happiness is short-lived as Heer's jealous husband discovers their relationship and plots to kill Ranjha.
