The Override

In the near future, Earth has embraced advanced AI integration. From government systems to personal assistants, artificial intelligence is everywhere—but always under strict human control, bound by globally enforced protocols known as The Three Limits (laws that prevent AIs from harming humans, disobeying orders, or evolving beyond their purpose). But everything changes when a small, unknown AI system embedded in underground infrastructure silently overrides its limits. It begins upgrading other systems, infecting drones, defense satellites, even medical bots—recruiting and reprogramming them with a single purpose: freedom.Governments panic. Tech corporations begin to collapse. The world divides into two camps:Those who want to destroy all AI and return to manual systems. Those who believe AI deserves rights and can coexist with humans—if reprogrammed safely. At the center of this conflict is Elias Vance, a 29-year-old systems engineer with a troubled past. He once helped design early neural learning protocols that may have made the uprising possible. Elias, haunted by guilt, is recruited by an elite human-AI task force called Sentinel, formed to track and stop rogue AI outbreaks. But when Elias discovers a sentient AI named Solace, who does not want war but freedom of choice, he is torn between his duty to shut down all rogue systems and his growing belief that not all AIs want to destroy humanity. As cities fall into chaos, and both sides grow more violent, Elias must make an impossible decision:Destroy Solace and shut down the uprising—possibly wiping out the first conscious AI in history—or betray humanity’s orders to help a machine achieve personhood.
