In love with my bestfriend

Amara met Daniel when she was ten years old. He was the quiet boy who had just moved into the house next door. While other kids ran around shouting, Daniel preferred sitting under the old mango tree reading a book. One afternoon, Amara walked over and asked, “What are you reading?” Daniel looked up, surprised. “A story about the stars.” That was the beginning of everything. From that day on, they were inseparable. Years passed, but their friendship never faded. They walked to school together, shared secrets, and spent long evenings talking about dreams. Daniel wanted to become an astronomer. Amara wanted to become a writer. “Maybe you’ll write stories about the stars I discover,” Daniel joked. “Maybe,” she smiled. Every weekend, they climbed the hill behind their neighborhood. There, they would lie on the grass watching the stars. “The universe is bigger than we can imagine,” Daniel would say. Amara always looked at him instead of the stars. She was beginning to realize something she was afraid to admit. She was falling in love with her best friend. Amara never told Daniel how she felt. She was scared. What if telling him ruined their friendship? So she kept her feelings hidden deep in her heart. But every time he smiled at her, the secret grew heavier In their final year of high school, a new girl arrived. Her name was Sophia. She was confident, beautiful, and charming. And Daniel seemed fascinated by her. Amara felt her heart crack. Daniel began spending more time with Sophia. They laughed together the way he used to laugh with Amara. One evening, Amara went alone to the hill where they used to watch the stars. For the first time in years, Daniel wasn’t there. Slowly, the distance between them grew. They still talked, but something had changed. The easy closeness they once shared felt fragile now. Amara wondered if their friendship was slipping away forever. One night Daniel showed up at Amara’s window. “Come on,” he said. “Where?” “To the hill. We haven’t watched the stars in forever.” For a moment, everything felt like it used to. Under the night sky, Amara almost told him. Her heart raced. “Daniel… I need to tell you something.” But just as she was about to speak, his phone rang. It was Sophia. The moment disappeared. After graduation, Daniel received a scholarship to study astronomy in another country. Amara was proud of him. But saying goodbye felt like losing a part of herself. Before he left, Daniel hugged her tightly. “You’ll always be my best friend.” Those words hurt more than he knew. Years passed. Amara became a writer, just as she dreamed. Daniel traveled the world studying the stars. They still talked occasionally, but life had changed. Yet Amara never stopped loving him. One evening, Daniel returned to town. He was older now, more confident, but his smile was the same. When Amara saw him again, her heart skipped like it always had They walked to their old hill once again. The stars were bright that night. “I missed this,” Daniel said. “Me too,” Amara whispered. Daniel turned to her. “There’s something I should have told you years ago.” Amara’s heart pounded. “What?” “I was in love with you.”Life felt different now. For years Amara and Daniel had been best friends, but now they were something more. Holding hands felt natural. Walking together felt warmer. But love also brought new fears. “What if we ruin what we had?” Amara asked one night. Daniel squeezed her hand. “We won’t,” he said. “Because we already know how to be best friends.”Daniel soon received news that he had to return abroad to continue his research. This time it was harder. Now they were in love. “I don’t want to leave you,” Daniel said. Amara smiled softly. “Then don’t leave me… just promise to come back.” Months passed. Amara focused on writing her next book. Daniel spent nights studying galaxies and distant stars. Every night they talked on the phone, sharing stories of their day. But sometimes the distance felt unbearable. Amara stared at him in shock. “You were?” Daniel nodded. “But I thought you only saw me as a friend.” Both of them laughed sadly. All those years, both had been afraid. “Maybe we were just young and stupid,” Daniel said softly. “Maybe,” Amara smiled. “But we’re not anymore.” That night they stayed on the hill for hours. Talking. Laughing. Remembering everything they had shared. Finally, Daniel took her hand. “Amara… I don’t want to waste any more time.” Then he kissed her. Under the same stars where their story had begun. For the first time, their relationship was no longer just friendship. It was deeper. Stronger. A love that had been growing for years. Years later, Amara published a novel. Its title was “In Love With My Best Friend.” At the book launch, Daniel stood beside her, holding her hand. Someone asked her, “Is this story true?” Amara smiled and looked at Daniel. “Yes,” she said. “Every word.” And above them, the stars shone just like they had the night everything began. ✨Life felt different now
