Rise Like FireUpdated at Mar 10, 2022, 10:56
Legend says that long ago, Fire was alive. It took the shape of those around it, from birds to horses, to humans themselves, Fire played, it danced, it lived and breathed. Fire brought warmth to humanity, it brought light, it protected humans and creatures alike from the dangers that lurked in the dark.
As the years passed Fire grew, it became larger, brighter, hotter, it's golden flames reaching father then ever before-but people started to shy away from it. The heat that had once been welcomed with open arms had grown too hot, now instead of spreading warmth to those living in it's light it brought pain, it had grown too big, it's heat to intense, all those it sought to help were now hurting.
Fire couldn't leave, if it pulled away from humanity they would no longer be protected from the dangers lurking in the dark edges of their world-but if nothing changed humanity would suffer from the heat and harsh light... it was during this time that one clever little human shared her idea with Fire.
"Right now you are too great" the tiny human female explained, sitting under the shade of a rocky overhang so she wasn't harmed by Fire's scorching light, her tanned skin still glistened with sweat from the blistering heat but she persisted with sharing her idea. "your form is so large that your light and heat is harmful-" Fire flickered sadly, regretting the pain it had unintentionally caused. The female offered Fire a small smile, knowing it's regret. "but if you were able to make yourself smaller, your light and warmth wouldn't harm anyone, if you became many instead of one, you would be able to protect us all"
The process of separating from itself was difficult, and painful, most attempts resulted in nothing-but Fire would not give up, failure after failure, day after day, the human female who had first brought the idea to Fire tried as best she could to help and with her aid-nearly a year after Fire had first tried to separate a piece from itself-a tiny flame flickered into existence... and remained.
