James Potter, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin were walking along the corridor. It was just a couple more hours before curfew and they were on their way to the kitchens. Not that going there after hours bothered them, of course. It's just that Sirius's bottomless pit, a.k.a. stomach, was growling now, and he had dragged the other two Marauders off with him. "Sirius, couldn't you have gone alone?" said Remus, in a tired voice. It was just a few days after the full moon, so he was still feeling ill, and he still had a mountain of homework left to do. "I thought the Marauders would always 'stick together'! That's what we swore!" cried Sirius, pretending to be indignant. "Yes, Pads, but that doesn't mean every single second of the day! Otherwise I wouldn't have sworn at all. I mean, who'd want to be stuck with you forever?" James laughed. "Well, I-!" but Remus cut Sirius's retort. "Hold it, you two!" he said, flanging out an arm to stop them on their tracks. "What's that?" He was pointing at a floating ball of light in the middle of the deserted corridor, just a few meters in front of them. It had a blue-ish glow… kind of like that of a portkey. "Let's go see!" cried Sirius, dragging the two once again, ignoring James's protest and Remus's warnings of caution. Once they were directly in front of it, Sirius made to touch it with a finger. "Don't Sirius!" Remus shouted, mere inches from his back. "What could possibly happen?" And Sirius moved his finger forward. "No, Pads, don't!" "SIRIUS!"
