The Africa child by Osamede Eloghosa Anita tells the story of a young girl Adeyemi,who was given out in marriage at age 16,to a man chief Akande who was about 50years of age. Adeyemi, daughter of Mr and Mrs Rotimi was given out in marriage to chief Akande due to the inability of her father to pay the debt he own chief Akande. Adeyemi was the second born of a family of five and happens to be the first daughter. Chief Akande was a wealthy man,who has two beautiful wives and 13 children,one of the daughters Ireti was same age with little Adeyemi, being a 16years old girl of age, Adeyemi had no idea about marriage neither has she been given a proper sex education but with the help of Ma Runke chief Akande first wife, Adeyemi had learned a lot. After the birth of her first child Bamidale, Adeyemi was rape by chief Akande first son mustapha who could not get his eyes off Adeyemi due to her beauty, smartness and intelligence,this lead chief Akande to send her packing.Adeyemi moved to her parents house with her child Bamidale, she was given a worn welcome by her family, the father had regretted giving her daughter to chief,but could not helped it at that time meanwhile chief had order the arrest of his son by the village youth. After three months of living with her parents Adeyemi found she was pregnant lack inability to control her urination,her mother took her to the village clinic after alot of medical examination Adeyemi was diagnosed with Vaginal fistula her mother didn't understand what the doctor meant by vaginal fistula but was later given a proper explanation,Adeyemi and her mother cried out their eyes.

It early hour of the day,Chief Muili a man of about 50 years of age,with two beautiful wives and 13 children has come with some of his kingsmen to the compound of Mr Rotimi to pay the bride price of one of his daughters Adeyemi a 16 years old girl. Adeyemi who was supposed to be in school with other children could not because of forceful marriage as a result of her father's inability to pay the debt he own chief Muili and as such Adeyemi has to be used as a ransom of his father's debt. Adeyemi happened to be the first daughter of Mr Rotimi, she was the second born in the family of five with an older brother and three younger siblings, Adeyemi mother Mrs Rotimi Bumi has done all that was within her power to save her daughter from child marriage,but all efforts was to no avail,has the debt was much and the only pay back chief Muili wanted was their daughter. Adeyemi mother began to teach her young daughter how to be a woman, taking care of the home and also being a good wife to chief Muili, Adeyemi cried, pleaded with her parents not to give her out,but there was nothing they could do. Finally, Adeyemi has been handed over to chief Muili as wife according to their tradition and culture,the other wife gave her a worm welcome as she was as young as one of their daughters Ireti who was same age with Adeyemi.None of her age grade could laugh or even mock at Adeyemi because it could have happened to any of them,as child marriage was part of their culture and tradition.
