Nala Peters is a fifteen year old girl from the countryside who has recently moved to the city to live with her brother Corbin. One day a teacher at her high school tries to proposition her and she is too shy to refuse. Sean Baker is a popular second year student at the same high school who witnesses the encounter. He helps Nala escape the situation by pretending that they are dating, despite the fact that they have never met before. Now all of their friends believe the two of them are a couple. Rather than admitting the truth and being found out as liars, the two of them devise a plan to pretend to date with the intention of breaking up in the future. Over the next year the two of them end up spending a lot of time getting to know each other. They discover both good and bad things about one another and learn to enjoy each other's company.
