A high school student Genevieve comes back from school and gets an unexpected call from her sister. When she picks up, her sister Giselle is very panicked. Genevieve finds out from her, that their parents have been murdered by some men. Giselle warns Genevieve, that they escaped and sneak around Kingston upon Thames - their hometown. Giselle suggests, Genevieve should escape, as the murderers could be still close, and come back, when everything is okay again. On her way, Genevieve meets a gentleman, Stan, who helps her to find a place to stay at. He offers her his own house, which has been empty recently. When Genevieve arrives at Stan's house in the middle of the night, she discovers she is not the only person in it. She bumps into a boy - Jared. It turns out, Stan offered him his house too. Both Genevieve and Jared agree, that this is a weird coinsidance. Besides that fact, Genevieve and Jared make friends and even fall in love. Jared also has a complicated future, but it is even darker than Genevieve's. He still keeps it as a secret, though. Genevieve and Jared spend a few days with each other, living in Stan's house - Mist Hill, rescue a dog and name him Jack. They also meet Timothée, working in a library. At Halloween Genevieve discovers, that Jared has a gun with him. She gets scared and thinks Jared wants to kill her. Happily, it's not true. After they talk it out, they are kidnapped and placed in an abandoned circus. They are chased, but successfully find a way out. When they run away, they find out, that Timothée has disappeared. They think, he might be involved in their situation. Jared also mentions, that he had an unpleasant journey to Mist Hill, getting a lift from two psycho killers. Jared connects the dots and solves Genevieve's parents' murder mystery, so they defeat their enemies together. Jared agrees to go to Genevieve's hometown with her, then they decide to visit Mist Hill. It turns out, that Stan died in 1978 and helped them as a ghost...
