I didn't know...Updated at Sep 17, 2023, 22:27
I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I watched from the side as they cleared up the accident. The accident I was in. I watched as they rolled a gurney past me with a white sheet over it. There was someone under that sheet. It looked just like the one that went by a few minutes ago. People died in the accident I was in. I didn't know what to do, so I stayed back and watched. I watched four ambulances pull away. Three had gurneys with the white sheet over them with solemn looking EMT's. One ambulance had a man they were working on frantically to keep alive. There was a woman crying hysterically while the police tried to comfort her and give her information while the tow trucks were trying to remove the wreckage from the roadway. Nobody came to talk to me to ask how I was or what happened. Nobody came to give me information on my car. I started to walk over the police woman who was walking away from her partner dealing with the hysterical woman. "Ma'am? I've never been in an accident before. I'm not sure of the process. Can you help me"? The officer continued to her patrol vehicle while pulling our her cell phone. "Yes, Sir. three expired, one critical, and one with minor wounds." I guess my questions weren't important enough for her Highness. "Ma'am! I was asking a question." I raised my voice so she could hear me. Her Highness ignored me and continued her conversation. This woman was infuriating! I turned on my heal to walk towards the other officer when I noticed there were EMTs cleaning up to leave. "Excuse me. I was wondering what I needed to do? Nobody came to talk to me at all." The men looked up and just beyond my head as the tow truck started to pull the larger car out of the wreckage, causing a loud blood curling skreech like nails on a chalkboard. Everyone , in fact, had stopped what they were doing to look. It was the car that had rolled over and landed on the front half of my car. The sound of metal on metal as they pulled the cars apart was sickening. The woman with the officer was frozen in place and went pale. Both EMTs that I had been trying to talk to rushed by me and got to her just as her eyes rolled back in her head, and she started to go down. I rushed over, not sure if I was concerned about her or if I was scared of the noise, as well. "She fainted. We're going to take her to the ER so they can check her out. Not sure why she didn't want to go to be checked out after an accident like that anyway, " said the blonde EMT. The officer she had been talking to just shrugged."I want to get checked out ,too. Can I ride with you guys?" They all ignored me. Again. Do they not realize that I was in that accident? I was driving that crushed up pile of debris that used to be my car? Do they hate me thinking it was my fault? Surely, I still deserve to be heard and medically treated. Why was this happening? The EMTs placed the woman on the gurney and started strapping her on. She was a pretty woman with sand colored hair and golden skin. There was a knot on her head where she must have hit it. I followed them back to their ambulance, where they loaded her in the back. I went to the side door of the ambulance and climbed in. "I'm coming, too." Nobody said anything or acknowledged that I was there. Rude people. I just sat there and waited patiently for us to leave. "A5 to dispatch""Dispatch ready""32 year old female involved in vehicular accident. Unconscious. Possible concussion. En route to University Trauma center. ETA 5 minutes."There was a long pause."10-4, A5. University Trauma is expecting your arrival." We pulled up to the trauma center at the ambulance entrance four minutes later. The woman was still unconscious, and the EMTs got her out and walked through the sliding double doors. Still, nobody said anything to me, so I followed behind and walked up to the receptionist desk to get checked in. There was a clipboard and pen on the desk that read, "Please sign in." I signed my name and sat down. The waiting area had a few groups of people that appeared to be together. Some were watching tv while others were crying and holding each other. In the corner was a young girl, maybe eight years old, playing cards with a woman who appeared to be in her late twenties. The little girl looked over at me and smiled. I smiled back at her, then quickly looked away. I am having a rough day ,and I don't feel like talking. Thinking quickly, I checked my pockets for my phone. I could call someone and tell them I am here so I'm not alone. I guess I lost my phone in the accident. My insurance company would replace it. I hope. I'm not even sure what happened. I didn't know if the accident was my fault. I didn't know where I had been going or if anyone was with me. I didn't remember anything. Come to think of it, I wasn't even upset or hurting like I had just been in a car accident. I jumped up suddenly, looking around. All the faces in the waiting room had changed.
