Mira had always craved adventure but never expected it would come in the form of an invitation from Nora, a friend she met online just months ago through a game. Nora was warm, like the sister Mira never had, and when she suggested Mira move to her quiet, picturesque town and enroll in the same university, Mira hesitated. New people, a new place—it was overwhelming. Yet, drawn by Nora's charm and the promise of a close bond, she agreed. From the moment she arrived, Mira felt uneasy. The small town seemed too quiet, the kind of silence that pressed against your chest. Nora introduced her to her friends, a lively group who peppered Mira with questions about her life and why she chose to come. Mira enjoyed the attention, but something felt off. The air buzzed with whispers, and she noticed how students hurried to leave the campus after classes, their eyes darting nervously. Curious, Mira asked, "Why is everyone in such a rush? Don’t people hang out after class?" Her question froze the group. They exchanged glances, their expressions clouding with dread. Nora hesitated before whispering, "We don’t stay here after 3:45 PM. By 4:00, strange things happen. If you linger…you see things. And bad things happen." Mira laughed nervously, refusing to believe such superstitions. “Come on, Nora. We’re adults. This isn’t some ghost story!” But Nora’s pale face remained serious. “Promise me,” she said firmly, “you’ll meet me by 2:45 every day. We’ll leave together.” Reluctantly, Mira agreed, though she couldn’t shake her disappointment. Why hadn’t Nora warned her about this before she moved? Still, she brushed it off as local folklore—until her first class. Mira, a Fine Arts student with a dreamer’s heart, found herself enchanted by the beauty of the campus. From her seat at the back of the classroom, she gazed longingly at the lush garden outside, its vibrant flowers and swaying trees practically begging to be sketched. She raised her hand. “Sir, why is the garden always empty? Are we not allowed there?” The teacher’s smile vanished. His voice dropped to a low, careful tone. “You’re new here, aren’t you?” Mira nodded. “Then listen closely,” he said. “Never trust your eyes when something looks too perfect. Beauty can lie. And whatever you do, stay with others. Don’t wander alone.” His words sent a chill through her. She nodded, too unnerved to argue. As the day wore on, Mira grew increasingly unsettled. At 2:45, she waited outside her classroom for Nora. Students flooded the hallways, their footsteps echoing, their faces tense. Among the crowd, a girl caught Mira’s attention. She stood still, her pale face expressionless, her unblinking eyes locked on Mira. The world seemed to slow. The chatter of the hallway faded, replaced by a ringing in Mira’s ears. The girl’s gaze was magnetic, pulling her in, drowning her in an eerie silence. She wanted to look away but couldn’t. “Mira!” Nora’s voice broke the spell, and Mira blinked as her friend grabbed her arm. “Sorry, I got stuck in the crowd,” Nora said breathlessly. “Let’s go!” But Mira didn’t move. Her eyes darted back to where the girl had stood—empty now, as though she’d vanished into thin air. “What’s wrong?” Nora asked, her voice tinged with worry. Mira shook her head, muttering, “Nothing… I thought I saw someone.” Nora tugged her forward. “No time for that. We have to go.” As they hurried to the campus gate, Mira felt a gnawing unease. The girl’s haunting stare stayed with her, a phantom etched into her mind. Nora’s voice faded into background noise as Mira’s thoughts spiraled. Who was she? And why did it feel like her gaze carried a warning Mira couldn’t understand? The sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the path. And with each step toward the gate, Mira felt as though something—someone—was watching.
