Elvanno was confused when he woke up in the hospital with a throbbing headache. A fleeting, indistinct image flashed through his mind. Blood, screams, and someone’s triumphant laughter filled his young, adolescent brain.
The 17-year-old boy was crying. Of all his memories, that scream was the one that rang loudest in his head.
“YOU KILLED YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY!”
He had to get out of there. He could hear the police officer’s footsteps approaching—he didn’t want to be imprisoned in the prime of his youth. Not yet; he didn’t want to stand trial and face the judge until his memory had fully returned.
He needed to know. Could his memories be trusted or not? Was it true that he had killed every member of his family with his own hands?
Elvanno removed the wires attached to his wrists, jumped out of the hospital window, and headed for an address tucked into the pocket of his hospital gown.
He was going to wander.
