The Mafia's Forgotten Rose
Updated at Jul 23, 2026, 14:57
Amara Bellwyn had three important rules in life. First, never argue with a rooster. Second, never run while carrying a basket full of eggs. And third... Never, ever accidentally throw a pie at a stranger. Unfortunately, she had already broken all three before breakfast. "Amara!" She froze in the middle of the village road. Slowly, she looked down at the empty basket in her hands. Then she looked at the broken eggs scattered around her feet. "I can explain," she said. Her grandmother crossed her arms. "Can you?" Amara opened her mouth. Then closed it. "...No." The villagers nearby laughed. That was Amara Bellwyn. The girl who could trip over perfectly flat ground, apologize to furniture after bumping into it, and somehow turn every embarrassing moment into a story everyone loved telling. But despite her clumsiness, everyone in the village knew one thing. Amara had the kindest heart. She spent her mornings helping neighbors, taking care of stray animals, and delivering homemade bread to elderly villagers who lived alone. She didn't own expensive dresses. She didn't care about fancy parties. Her beauty was natural—the warm glow from living under the countryside sun, long dark curly hair that refused to stay perfectly tied, thick eyelashes that made her expressions impossible to hide, and dimples that appeared whenever she laughed. Amara didn't know that someone dangerous was about to enter her peaceful little world. And she definitely didn't expect him to be the man she accidentally attacked with a pie. --- The black luxury car looked completely out of place on the dusty village road. Everyone stopped what they were doing. Everyone except Amara. Because Amara was too busy chasing a chicken that stole her grandmother's bread. "Come back here, you tiny criminal!" The chicken ignored her. Naturally. Amara ran faster. Big mistake. Her foot caught on a small rock. Her body moved forward. Her hands flew up. And the pie she was carrying went directly toward the first person standing in front of her. Splat. Silence. The entire village froze. Amara slowly opened her eyes. A man in an expensive black suit stood in front of her. With strawberry pie covering half of his perfectly serious face. "Oh." A pause. "Oh no." The man's expression did not change. That somehow made it worse. Amara immediately bowed. "I'm so sorry!" No answer. "I promise I usually don't throw food at strangers." Still nothing. "I mean... I do throw food sometimes, but mostly at chickens, and you don't look like a chicken, so—" The villagers gasped. Amara stopped talking. The man's cold eyes stared at her. Then someone whispered: "That's Riven Alistair Veyron." Amara blinked. The name meant nothing to her. She looked at the pie on his suit. Then back at him. "Should I... apologize again?" For the first time in years, Riven Veyron was speechless. Everyone feared him. Powerful men avoided his gaze. Enemies trembled when they heard his name. But this girl? This strange countryside girl covered in flour and embarrassment? She was looking at him like he was the one having a bad day. And somehow, that irritated him more than any enemy ever had. "Who are you?" he finally asked. Amara smiled awkwardly. "Someone who is definitely going to pay for your dry cleaning." A tiny pause. Then she added: "Hopefully before my grandmother finds out I ruined another thing today." For reasons he couldn't understand... Riven almost smiled. Almost.
