Fruits Forbidden

Fate has a way of messing up things the moment you see the happy ending coming. May and Daniel, childhood bestfriends and unrequited lovers, took years before they could confess their feelings to each other. All had finally started to look good, until one day, a storm came and destroyed their lives completely. When they didn’t know, they could stay together forever; now that they knew, their love was to be broken. Their love became forbidden. One thing about forbidden fruits? They taste delectable when devoured. *** His hands held both my wrists hostage on my sides, fingers digging into my skin. “Why can’t you get what I’m saying, May? I. Cannot. Move. On.” His fingers tightened and I winced. For a moment, his eyes became the soft hazel orbs I had come to love. His voice became gentler. “Look how far we have come, love. Look how much love there is between us, and now you decide that you can't fight for it? For us?” He didn’t get it. He didn’t understand, and I was growing sick of it. “No! I can't, Daniel! It’s for the best. I can't ruin her happiness, not now!” I sobbed as my tears started flowing furiously. I wanted him just as much, but her happiness mattered to me more than my own did. “Will you be able to forget what we had when you have to see my goddamn face every fucking day?” A single tear threatened to drop from the corner of his eye. “Because I can assure you, I won’t.” “You will have to. This cannot happen, Nellie. We cannot happen. I'm sorry.” His face lost any signs of fight they had and the droplet of emotion was wiped away before it could fall. He let go of my arms, and I felt lonelier at that one single action. His eyes were red, but I knew they had more pain than rage in them. I wanted to make it all go away. I wanted to be with him just as well. My tears fell faster. I wanted to comfort him, but before my fingers could touch the hem of his shirt, he took a big step back, retreating from my touch. “It's Daniel to you now.”
