The Walker

A story set around two hundred years in the future. After a cataclysmic event that forced a mass exodus of the rich, smart or better members of society to the promises of space, we follow the eponymous Walker as he travels the changed landscapes of England. In the new world, knowledge is power, and books are a rare and sought after resource. Outlawed by the Order and collected by their soldiers, the Philosophers, control of the people's source of knowledge is vied for with the Walkers, a rebel group started by Walker himself (so named because of him, and due to the fact that they can't stay still for too long). The story starts with Walker recently coming back to England from abroad with a new quest: to alter the Order's physical copy of their Philosophers list to reinstate himself as an official member. He meets Daisy, a young woman whom he met once a long time ago, and she joins him as he travels. Walker himself is ex-Order. He was a fully trained Philosopher, an expert weapons handler, and followed the Order's original leader, Father. When Father grew mentally unstable, Mother, as she came to be known, one of his old associates, dealt with him, usurped him, and changed the path of the Order. Walker rebelled against Mother and started the Walkers. Throughout flashbacks, we learn that Walker once met a young boy, taking him on as his apprentice and training him the ways of the Order, despite the illegality of such actions. SPOILER ALERT (might want to skip if you don't want to spoil the ending!) Throughout the story hints as to Walker's real identity are revealed. The reader, hopefully, should be able to note that the Boy is in fact the Walker we are following, and the real Walker was killed long ago. Part of a trilogy
