Two families, the Strefords and the Cliffs, are close friends and business partners who decide to unite their companies—and their families—through marriage. The plan picks Vera, one of a pair of identical twin sisters, as the bride. Vera, who fiercely rejects the arrangement, runs away in rebellion. That leaves her twin Lily, who is calm and gentle, to take Vera’s place. Lily must pretend to be her bold, free-spirited sister and fool Raynold, the intended groom.
