SYNOPSIS OF IN BETWEEN.
In between is a novel drafted in the fabrics of suspense. It consists of twenty three chapters with each chapter guiding the reader till the last word is consumed. The novel is set during the militarization of Nigeria from July 1991 – July 1992. In sequence it highlights how the so called giant of Africa tottered with its shivering economy, together with injustice that loomed at that period. It was the same injustice that made Awoliwo the drug lord to escape the firing squad. It isn’t an old news that top government officials had a hand in his dissappearance and that is what bought him the name Awoliwo- great toad. He nicknamed himself Awoliwo after the Igbo proverb, ‘with all the flight of aku(winged termite) it still fell for the toad. He explained that no matter the strength of his victims that they will still fall for him like aku. Things started to fall apart when he kidnapped Nneka and Kachi and that alone brewed the genesis of tragedy in In between. They we’re kidnapped in the heat of the fresh military coup. Kwado went in search of his family and was shot dead when he breached the curfew imposed after the coup. The sad story(part 1) consists of one chapter. The part two version of In between (life before the sad story) consists of chapter two – seventeen while part three narrows along chapter eighteen – twenty two. Part four, the episode finale is all about Kwado's memorial which is the presence of an absence. It summed In between into twenty three chapters. Kwado's death project the death he composed in chapter one, after Father lied about the death of Mama and Kachi. The film in our mind as death looms is the past, each moment gracefully held as presence turns around as a slide projector, of sepulcher in moving form, of the past as present well grabbed. Kwado's past held as a presence in their minds. This indelible past hangs as a veil which no one can unveil.
