After his parents divorced and each started new families, Su Yuan, the unwanted child, was taken in by his grandparents and brought back to the countryside. It was there that he met Qin Xizheng—a boy who loved to give him nicknames, teased him endlessly, yet always stood by to protect him like a knight.
When they first met, Su Yuan thought Qin Xizheng was a good person—after all, he gave him a gift. To Qin Xizheng, the timid boy in white, with his delicate gaze, was far more beautiful than any blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl he had seen in the capital.
When they met again, Su Yuan found the nickname “Village Flower” and Qin Xizheng’s energetic antics highly annoying. But Qin Xizheng thought otherwise—watching Su Yuan, the bashful “Village Prince,” eyes welling up in frustration, too shy to voice his complaints, only made him seem more endearing.
In a soft voice, Su Yuan tried to defend himself, “I’m not a coward.”
Qin Xizheng, carrying him on his back, chuckled, “You are. You’re even scared of such a tiny dog. If you’re not, then who is?”
“I’m not,” Su Yuan muttered under his breath.
Su Yuan thought Qin Xizheng was good at everything—except for studying. He watched him struggle to pronounce even a single word. Meanwhile, Qin Xizheng thought Su Yuan was good at nothing—other than being a top student. He was always crying, afraid of dogs, picky with food, and often ill. So Qin Xizheng made a promise to himself: he would grow stronger, to shield Su Yuan under a vast blue sky.
Years later, having dropped out of school and returned with a group of followers, Qin Xizheng smiled and said, “My dear President Su, I’ve come to take you home.”
