"Do you have any idea why I wasn't around for these past couple of days?" Killian asked, his voice cutting through her thoughts.
Eva shook her head.
He took a slow, unsteady breath before meeting her eyes. "I'm not very good at this," he admitted, running a hand through his hair.
"I thought staying away from you was the right thing to do but I was wrong. I was only hurting you in the process," he said looking away.
"I'm not going to lie to you, I'm not a good man Evangeline," his voice was steady, but there was pain beneath it.
"I'm dangerous, my life revolves around violence, guns and blood and I would hate to drag you into my world."
Eva knew him better than anyone else did although they had just met not to long ago. Killian wore cruelty like armor, but beneath the hardened exterior was a heart that had simply forgotten how to trust. To The world he was ruthless but to her, he was gentle, soft and patient.
Slowly, she reached out and gently took his hand and his fingers instinctively closed around hers.
His jaw tightened as he searched for words that refused to come easily. He had negotiated with criminals, stared down armed enemies, and walked into danger without hesitation. Yet standing in front of Eva left him feeling more exposed than any battlefield ever had. He let out a slow breath.
"I tried hard to forget you, trust me Evangeline," he said staring down at their intertwined hands.
"I really did but no matter how much I tried I couldn't," he said as he gazed into her eyes with unmistakable warmth.
"Since the day you walked into my life I've been feeling things which I haven't felt for anyone before."
Eva's chest tightened in surprise.
"I want you Evangeline," he confessed, his voice was deep and smooth, like warm honey poured over velvet.
Abused, broken and mute, Evangeline Ravenswood had been abused and tortured by her mother and sisters as long as she could remember. At the age of seven she lost her voice due to the constant abuse. The only person she could trust and rely on is Soren, her childhood friend and the one person who always protects her but that changes when she meets Killian, the boss of the underworld.
Killian is ruthless, cold and distant. He built his empire on the belief that innocence is a lie. He believes people survive by becoming monsters.
