The story is about a man named Thomas who lived a sinful life and is transported to the afterlife. He first enters Heaven but feels out of place, so he asks the angels to take him to Hell. After seeing the suffering of the souls there, he begs to return to Heaven and is given a chance for redemption in Purgatory.
