The overarching theme of the book is that love conquers all. Despite the social status difference between Steve (ML) and Eloise (FL), and the challenges they face, they overcome them because of their love for each other. Steve's (ML) mom learns about his relationship with Eloise (FL) and doesn't approve of it; chiefly because of the social gap between them, and because Steve (ML) is meant to marry someone else - Sophie - his childhood friend and daughter of a billionaire (Mr. Baker) whom the Bennets wish to acquire his company.
