AFTER 11PMUpdated at Sep 27, 2026, 12:57
After 11PM the main gate at Polytechnic, Chichiri locks.
My name is Ven. I am 29 now, telling what happened 10 years ago when we were at school. Second year Computer Science, Blantyre. My brother in Lilongwe, Medicine. Our schools were not that closer, five hours by bus.
That night in June, at campus not in holiday, me and my lab partner stayed late in Lab 2 finishing a project. Rain small, cold from Soche, generator on and off.
At 11:15 the guard locked us inside and slept with radio loud. Hostels locked. Only place was the store room. One thin mattress. One blanket written POLY PROPERTY DO NOT STEAL.
We said you sleep that side, I sleep this side. We are bro and sis. I call you sis because you are my bro.
Morning we were not back to back again.
We promised to forget. But some nights you don't forget.
