Ember’s running through the woods. All she can hear is the beating of her heart, the whoosh of air when it leaves her lungs, and the pounding of feet from the people chasing after her. It’s becoming easier to see now. The sun is coming over the horizon, filtering through the trees. Running in her night gown is a little difficult because her feet kept stepping on the hem, tripping her once. She fell down hard, hurting her wrist and ripping her gown.
