(His POV)
Suddenly, brilliant blue eyes were locked on mine. I had intended to be gone before she awoke. She surprised me when, out of nowhere, she opened her eyes, finding mine watching her from my darkened corner seat, as though my very presence called her out of her slumber. Seconds passed, before I slowly got to my feet. I waited for her to speak, but she did not, so I approached her. As I stood at her bedside, my hands were in my pockets. I wanted her to know she had nothing to fear from me. I know what my subjects say about me; that my gaze is intense and unsettling. However, she seemed unfazed by it. Perhaps this was another sign that she belonged to me. I couldn’t read her mind, yet somehow, I suspected she believed she was dreaming. Good. I didn’t want this to be our first meeting. I should’ve left right then, I knew that, but first…

I withdrew my right hand from my pocket and slowly reached for hers. The instant my fingers linked with hers, the contact of our skin created a gentle hum between us and I breathed a sigh of contentedness. I could no longer deny our connection. There was an energy surging I’d never felt before, and knew I wouldn’t with anyone else on the planet. She looked from my face to our intertwined hands, tilting her head in curiosity. Her abilities were dormant, so I hadn’t expected her to feel the bond that had yet to be fully awakened. But judging by her reaction to me… was it possible? “You feel it too?” I whispered. She slowly nodded. I was unprepared for the intensity of our connection. I jerked my hand away regretting it instantly, as a look of hurt appeared across her face. I exhaled regretfully and put my hand on her cheek. “Rest, mon ange,” I spoke softly. “Our time will come. You have a journey you need to make first.” She closed her eyes in relief, leaning into my hand and soaking up the gentle hum of energy from my touch. “I’ll be seeing you soon.”
