The story is about a girl named Mary, an African girl who was raised by a traditional practicing family.She was the last born in the family of four children: two girls and two boys.They lived in a village in Kenya named Lumakayoko.Her brothers were taken to school and succeeded in education.Her sister got married at the age of eleven.Mary had a dream of becoming a teacher, inspired by her teacher of English, Mrs Marion, who was raised by nuns , by whom she got educated. She lives in a modern luxurious house across the street.Her dreams were to be cut short by her father, who wanted to marry her off.Her mother, Alice,was against it, so she sent Mary to the chief, who gave her her educational rights Thirteen years later, she was able to join the University of Nairobi, where she studied dentistry. She later went back to the Village and taught the villagers oral and dental hygiene, hence fulfilling her dream of becoming a teacher, although in a different field.
