Dr. Adrien Wren, a renowned but unpopular psychiatrist, presents five carefully selected patients with the opportunity to undergo groundbreaking treatment at The Halcyon Institute, located deep in the Colorado Rockies. Each of the five patients suffers from psychological afflictions based on suppressed memories, traumas, or unexplainable behavioral tendencies.Among the patients is Iris Vale, a brilliant but emotionally detached criminal profiler who has recurring nightmares and a constant sense of déjà vu. As therapy begins, patients are subjected to simulations designed to uncover and break through their unconscious blocks. But what begins as treatment quickly turns sinister. The institute's technology uses a combination of VR, psychoactive medication, and deep hypnosis—designed to trigger memory recall. But the line between illusion and reality begins to blur. Each patient starts remembering things they shouldn't. One says she killed someone. Another disappears during a session. As patients disappear or attack other patients, Iris finds a terrifying link: all five were involved—unaware—in a conspiracy over a dozen years ago. The institute isn't curing them—it's awakening what they tried to bury.Iris must uncover the truth within the episode's time limit, or she will be the final test subject in an experiment meant to punish, not cure.Inciting Incidents:A simulation yields a shared memory that should not exist: a screaming teenage girl in the woods.A patient becomes lost and is written off as "self-terminated."Blood is discovered by Iris in the VR chamber and she questions the official explanation.Rising ActionPatients begin experiencing hallucinations and reliving the trauma.Mira produces a sequence of abstract works that seem to depict an actual event from ten years before.Dom tries to manipulate others into a fictitious coalition, but it backfires.Iris finds concealed video in the system logs—patients discussing the same crime under hypnosis.Iris and Elias connect; she begins trusting him.Casey confesses she hacked into part of the system: Wren has been testing subconscious memory erasure.A third patient disappears, leaving Iris, Elias, and Mira.Climax:Iris accesses a repressed memory: she was a profiler who took part in a psychological experiment a decade ago, and the "incident" was erasing evidence of a teenager's death to protect the facility. All five patients were there as witnesses or test subjects—memories erased.Wren controlled the whole institute as a means of "healing" their brains by forced re-remembering.But trauma broke the other ones apart instead.Iris is offered a choice: remain with her new identity intact and leave, or pay the price and expose Wren.Falling Action:Iris stages an escape.Mira offers herself up to divert Wren.Elias and Iris release the evidence to the outside world using Casey's backup satellite hookup. The center is closed; Wren evaporates.Survivors are interrogated but eventually released.
