Caren Lewis is a strong-willed,relentless young lady, who has experienced an unthinkable tragedy in her past. In Highschool she was raped by her boyfriend Marcus, who she loved and cared for, which left her with deep scars and mistrust for men. This event shaped her world and mind-view, she no longer cared about giving her heart to anyone, she locked her heart away from men, but this made her to only have sexual relationships with any man, but never gave her heart a chance to love again. Caren’s journey in the novel starts to take shape when her parents force her into an arranged marriage with the same man she resented so much. Despite her initial refusal of the arrangement, she finally agrees to marry him in order to exact her revenge. Caren, who was devastated and filled with anger, decides to follow through with the marriage, but plans for her revenge. As the novel progresses, Caren finds herself in a sexual relationship with one of her lecturers, who she eventually finds out is Marcus uncle, she doesn’t care about how it would look if it got out and continues with her relationship with him. The first few months of their marriage was filled with anger and hate, Caren made sure that Marcus never had his way with her, when Marcus realises that Caren would never allow him to touch her, he introduces his mistress to her and doesn’t hide his relationship from Caren. Caren finds out that Marcus runs a shady and illegal business aside from being the CEO to his father’s company, she works with a detective who has been trailing Marcus for years and try to expose him. Along the line a deal went wrong and Marcus' mistress was killed, Marcus uses this opportunity to pin the death on his uncle professor Zan because of his affair with Caren. Professor Zan is taken into custody and evidence is put together to show that he allegedly killed her. When Caren finds out about this, she becomes furious at Marcus and vows to end him. But Marcus, being a ruthless man, finds a way to tame Caren by telling her about her real mother and why her present mother hated her so much. Eventually Caren lets Marcus have his way with her and she pretends for a while to be a sweet, caring wife to Marcus but this doesn’t deter her from her plans. At the end of the novel, Marcus is apprehended for being in a shady deal, then Zan is released, However a fatal twist occurs, Caren finds out she is pregnant but doesn’t know who the father of her unborn babies her.
