The Rebellion of 1929 is a gripping historical narrative that brings to life the untold story of the courageous women of southeastern Nigeria who stood up against British colonial oppression. Set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing society, the novel follows the lives of everyday women; traders, farmers, and leaders who refused to be silenced by unjust taxation and the corruption of the warrant chief system. At the heart of the story is Nwanyeruwa, a widow whose confrontation with a colonial census official sparks a movement that spreads like wildfire. From small villages to major towns, thousands of women mobilize, using song, dance, and strategic protests to challenge the colonial government. As tensions rise, the British respond with brutal force, but the women's resolve only grows stronger.Through vivid storytelling and deep historical research, The Rebellion of 1929 captures the resilience, unity, and sheer determination of these women who fought not just for themselves but for the future of their communities. It is a powerful legacy to the role of women in resistance movements and a tribute to the forgotten warriors who shaped history.
