Home is a mirage in my country

Home is the greatest shelter No where is safe like home This were the words of the horses on the Nigeria coat of arm That's why they say no journey feels like home The eagle added Why did you not add that I could be home yet feel homeless Why did you not tell us home is not always safe Why did you forget to mention that staying away from home could sometimes means staying away from death Or did you only tell us what a home should be and not what it is? You have told us to stay in our homes You told us not to search for greener pastures in other people's home You told us to build our home to our taste You challenged us and called us lazy You called us lazy for being too weak to suddenly turn a builder And now we chose to learn the art of constructing We chose to implement your teachings We honorably took your advises Yet look at us You turned into a terrible haven The home you told us so much about You turned into a laughing stock a once great nation Forgive me if my idea of a nation is only an illusion Maybe we use to have a home Maybe you wanted us to stay back and build our home Maybe you truly wanted us to stop seeking greener pastures And maybe as much as you wanted us to build our home country You were also building us graveyards in the home you told us is the safest You have not only made us homeless except that our hopes are lost too
