The story is set in the year 1800 in Korea, where the city of Seoul is ruled by the Kim Empire. The protagonist, Prince Jeon Jeongguk, lives in Busan with his only remaining relative, his brother Jeon Seokjin. Seokjin agrees to marry Jeongguk off to the to-be-next king, which Jeongguk refuses, but Seokjin insists that they cannot refuse the King's offer. Jeongguk has never seen the capital city or his future husband. As they travel to Seoul in a carriage, Jeongguk is awed by the beauty of the city. Upon arriving at the Kim's palace, Jeongguk meets the King's father, Kim Namjoon, and other parents, Jung Hoseok, who look at him seriously. Jeongguk is taken to a room to prepare for the wedding, which will take place in six hours. A man named Park Jimin is appointed as Jeongguk's main servant. Jungkook asks Jimin about his soon-to-be-husband's appearance, whether he is a beast, troll, handsome or ugly.
