DESPIRACYUpdated at Oct 6, 2025, 17:10
The narration (addressed as Desire by Lora) has agreed — after 14 days of agonizing — to take a risky, paid job: sleep with a wealthy woman’s husband so the wife can get proof of his infidelity. The pay is five million naira, money the narrator desperately wants to help expand her mother’s business and move abroad.
Lora, a former colleague turned boutique owner, brokered the deal. The rich wife (mysterious, confident, always wearing dark shades) briefs the narrator in an SUV: the job must be a single, “clean” encounter that yields hidden evidence; the narrator’s face must be concealed; she must not overstep, contact the husband afterward, or reveal the truth — or else. Travel, hotel and expenses will be covered; payment comes only after the job is completed.
Despite moral misgivings and fear, the narrator accepts for the life-changing money. Chapter One ends with her boarding a tricycle, steeling herself for the mission and the unknown consequences.
Main hooks: the ethical dilemma, the wealthy wife’s unsettling motive and control, the strict rules and threat, and the narrator’s mix of desperation and resolve — all set up a tense, morally fraught story with a clear cliffhanger.
