The crown of ashes
Updated at Jun 4, 2026, 07:33
The Crown of Ashes For two decades, Princess Seraphina Valeris has followed one rule: Never fall in love. As heir to the throne of Elyria, she shoulders a legacy darker than most – an ancient curse that has plagued her family for generations. Each royal who is gifted the kingdom’s power devastates the person they love most. Intent on breaking that cycle, Seraphina has built thick walls around her heart and learned to keep her future under strict control. Until the day a prisoner with silver eyes is brought to the capital. Rowan has been enslaved in chains and accused of unspeakable crimes that no one dares to question. Yet when he and Seraphina touch, identical markings sear their wrists, bonding them with an ancient magic that should no longer exist. As hidden enemies awaken and deadly secrets unearthed long threaten to rip the kingdom apart, Seraphina and Rowan find themselves increasingly intertwined by fate, each other, and a love they can’t deny. But the closer they get, the darker everything becomes. Not only is the curse that haunts the royal family real, it may have been unleashed by them. And the force that grows between them could have the power to tear the kingdom – and everything they love – wide apart. Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Kristin Cashore, The Crown of Ashes is sweeping fantasy romance about choosing to love when the world tries everything in its power to tell you not to. Full of secrets, treachery, forbidden romance, and the types of choices that could break your heart, book two of the Falling王朝Series is here to steal your breath away. *This review will contain spoilers for book one. So you guys know how much I absolutely adored the first book right? The thing about Crown of Midnight was the fact that it made me extremely anxious. There was so much that could’ve gone wrong with Crown of Ashes that I just wanted to throw my hands up and avoid this book FOREVER. Thankfully Jennifer did not disappoint with this conclusion. First things first, can we appreciate how freaking GORGEOUS that COVER IS? ! Ok moving on. Jennifer did an amazing job with this sequel. She was able to create a beautiful story that not only gave us answers to the secrets that were revealed in Crown of Midnight but also gave us so much more. We were able to explore the world more in-depth and learned more about the magic that Seraphina and her family are blessed (& cursed) with. One thing that I really enjoyed about Crown of Ashes was the fact that we were able to learn more about Rowan. His character was so intriguing to me throughout book one because we only ever saw him through Seraphina’s perspective. I loved learning about his background and his strengths. But what I REALLY loved was Seraphina and Rowan’s relationship. Yes, there were times where I wanted to shake Seraphina because of the rookie mistakes she was making but watching these two fall in love and build something so beautiful was really wonderful. While reading this book I found myself thinking about how their relationship was built off of honesty and trust. They were able to learn everything about each other and accept each other for who they were. They encouraged each other when one was feeling weak and comfort each other when they were feeling afraid. That type of connection is rare to come by not only in books but in real life. I loved every moment of Seraphina and Rowan’s romance. Jennifer was able to mix together the perfect amount of sweetness and steam to keep me hooked until the very last page. If you enjoyed book one then you HAVE to read Crown of Ashes. It was full of all the things I could want in a sequel. Jennifer created amazing characters that I fell in love with, an intriguing plot that had me constantly guessing, and the sweetest romance that had me swooning until the very end.
