Every society has factions within it that the higher powers fear. What they do with those factions is up to the government. Whether they destroy them or negotiate, it all depends on how the other faction retaliates.
Throughout history, there have been millions of changes to the lives of citizens of the world, both minor and major. There will always be people opposed to these changes - nothing can be perfect. But sometimes the government isn't able to deal with retaliation nearly as well as they have in the past.
Sometimes compromise becomes anarchy - or in this case, submission. What else could humans do when confronted with honest to God blood-sucking monsters?
Most humans live in blissful ignorance to the world of night that lurks just beneath the veil. But the most elite of the mortal population is well aware of the monsters that prowl the streets, blending in amongst the masses. The highest powers - kings and queens, presidents, lords and ladies, even the chieftains and shamans know about the vampyres.
Because they're forced to play by their rules. To maintain peace and not cause mass global hysteria, these elites must cater to the whims of these creatures. These beings rule the world, guiding the human leaders with their puppet strings. And to make sure they stay secret, to make sure they don't decimate the population, they require sacrifice.
In the United States, the underground caste system is hard at work, but there is, of course, the leaders. Someone who needs to keep their world under wraps. And in this case, it's the twin princes.
Dante and Damian are as ruthless and as coldblooded as any vampyre could be. They delight in seeing the suffering they cause to humans they deem as beneath them. To keep their bloodlust to minimum, their court provides them with one girl each month to do with as they please. To play with her, to feed from her, until they eventually kill her. And then their advisors simply make the girl disappear. Just another missing persons case in the thousands that are assigned daily. But this one will never be found.
It has never been different. For nearly a century, this has been happening. Twelve girls every year. For ninety seven years. 1,164 girls. Gone without a trace from the mortal plane. But the vampyres know what happened to them. The Princes certainly do. And now the next month has come. It's time for a new plaything. It's time for a new girl. But this one... This one is different... And the Princes can't help but notice. And for some reason, they can't resist her. And what if she can't resist them?
After all, fate is a tricky thing...
