PROLOGUE
THE NIGHT EVERYTHING CHANGED
The rain started at 11:47 p.m.
It came down hard enough to turn the unpaved streets into rivers of brown water. Old zinc roofs rattled beneath the storm, gutters overflowed, and the weak streetlights flickered as though the entire neighborhood was about to disappear into darkness.
Behind an unfinished building, four young men stood beneath a concrete staircase.
Qowaplyn had blood on his white T-shirt.
Kingshooter was pacing.
Tyrone kept looking through the broken window toward the street.
TEE sat on an overturned paint bucket, holding a black backpack that nobody had opened since they arrived.
Nobody spoke.
Then Kingshooter stopped pacing.
"Somebody better tell me what happened tonight."
Nobody answered.
He turned toward Qowaplyn.
"Bro, I'm asking you. What happened?"
Qowaplyn slowly raised his head.
"We made one mistake."
Kingshooter laughed bitterly.
"One mistake? My phone has been ringing for twenty minutes. Somebody just offered money for our heads, and you're telling me we made one mistake?"
Tyrone moved away from the window.
"Lower your voice. People can hear you."
"Let them hear me!" Kingshooter shouted. "We started with nothing. NOTHING! We built this thing from sand, cement, and sweat. We slept in places where rats had more freedom than human beings. We ate once a day and called it a feast. Now somebody wants to erase us like we never existed?"
TEE finally spoke.
"That's not the worst part."
Three faces turned toward him.
He opened the backpack.
Inside were several bundles of cash, a damaged mobile phone, and a small envelope sealed with red tape.
Qowaplyn stared at the envelope.
"Where did you get that?"
TEE swallowed.
"It was in the car."
"Whose car?"
TEE looked at Tyrone.
Tyrone's expression changed.
For the first time that night, he looked genuinely afraid.
Kingshooter reached for the envelope, but Qowaplyn caught his wrist.
"Don't."
"Why?"
"Because if what's inside that envelope is what I think it is, we aren't dealing with a street problem anymore."
A loud knock came from the other side of the building.
Three knocks.
A pause.
Two more.
Everyone froze.
Tyrone whispered, "That's our signal."
Kingshooter reached inside his jacket.
Qowaplyn shook his head.
"No weapons. Not tonight."
The knock came again.
Then a voice spoke through the door.
"Qowaplyn, open up."
He recognized the voice immediately.
It belonged to the man who had promised to change their lives.
The same man who had financed their first music video.
The same man who had introduced them to the city's most powerful businessman.
And the same man who had disappeared three days earlier after a shipment went missing.
Qowaplyn stepped toward the door.
Before he could reach it, his phone vibrated.
One message appeared on the screen.
UNKNOWN NUMBER:
One of your brothers sold you out. You have until sunrise to discover which one.
Qowaplyn looked at Kingshooter.
Then Tyrone.
Then TEE.
Outside, the man knocked one final time.
"Open the door, son. We need to talk."
Qowaplyn tightened his jaw.
"Nobody moves."
He looked at the message again.
Four brothers.
One secret.
And a night that would change everything.
Twelve months earlier, none of them knew their names would become a threat to the most powerful men in the city.
And it all began with a broken concrete mixer.
SEASON ONE: THE FOUNDATION
EPISODE 1 — THE BOYS NOBODY BELIEVED IN
Chapter One: Rock Bottom
The backyard wasn't beautiful.
It wasn't the kind of place people photographed for social media or used as the setting for motivational speeches.
It was a neglected patch of land behind an old family house. There were piles of sand, broken blocks, rusted roofing sheets, empty cement bags, and a concrete mixer that had not worked properly in months.
When it rained, the ground became slippery.
When the sun came o
