The light in Mark’s eyes went out. He had used the last of his last strength to try and save her, but she knew it was no use. The light streaming in from the bullet holes in the door were blocked for a moment by a figure on the other side, and she wasn’t surprised when it swung open to reveal men dressed all in black, pointing their guns at her. Rose smiled and brushed a loose strand of hair from Mark’s brow before she turned her gaze upwards once more. Pure hatred bloomed in her expression, twisting every nice part of her until she was almost unrecognisable. “One day, I’m going to kill you all.” She seethed, remembering Mark’s words. If he was right, she’d face these people again and, no matter how many tries it took, she would make them pay for the countless deaths they had caused. When the bullets fired into her, she felt nothing but tightening in her chest. She fell back, landing at Mark’s side, unable to move as the strength slowly left her body. One of the figures loomed above her, inspecting her features before they shook their head. At their signal, the others scoured the room, but soon left. They were searching for something. Something Rose didn’t have. She felt darkness creeping on her vision, lulling her into a long sleep. Her body ached to give in, and she didn’t deny it. If this was dying, it wasn’t all bad. She had read that the body floods with dopamine when it was about to die, letting itself pass without pain or fear. A weak smile pulled at her lips, somehow recognising that familiar feeling. It was strange to accept in that moment, but Mark’s conclusion rang true for her. Was it fate that they were to die that day, either on the train or hunted down like dogs? If it was, she’d have to face it all again when she woke. Rose didn’t like the sound of that, but there was one thing that made it easier to accept. Mark. He would be there, and he would be alive. A rush of determination filled her as consciousness slipped to oblivion. If this was fate, then fuck fate. She’d find a way to survive. For them both to survive. No matter how many times she had to die to succeed.
