operation black out -Abuja
Updated at Sep 11, 2026, 10:11
*PART 1: THE SIGNAL - 1000 words*The rain in Abuja didn’t fall. It attacked. 11:14PM. Presidential Villa security room. Red lights. Agent Tunde Bakare, 34, SSS, had been awake for 22 hours. Coffee cold. Eyes dry. His headset crackled. *"Eagle One, this is Watchtower. We have a breach. Code Blackout."*Code Blackout meant one thing: attack on national infrastructure. *"Location?"* Tunde said. *"Three locations. National Grid Control in Katampe. National Broadcast Station in Aso. And... the airport."*Tunde stood. His vest was already on. *"This is coordinated. Wake the Director."*He grabbed his Glock, 4 mags, comms, and a photo from his locker. His wife and 2 kids in Lokoja. He hadn’t seen them in 3 weeks. Outside, the city was dark except for lightning. Generators roaring. At 11:22PM the first explosion hit. Not a bomb. The power. All of Abuja went black. Then the second hit. The broadcast station. Dead air. The third didn’t explode. It jammed. Airport radar went blank.*"Who are they?"* the young tech asked. Tunde looked at the screen. A symbol flashed. A black falcon. *"The Falcon Cell. Ex-military. We thought we got them last year in Kaduna."* *"You didn’t."*Tunde’s phone buzzed. Unknown number. Voice message. A distorted voice: *"Agent Bakare. By 4:00AM, Nigeria will be dark, silent, and grounded. Surrender the Minister of Defense files or we start killing. Starting with 200 people on Flight NG402 circling with no radar. You have 4 hours. Tick tock."*The line died. Tunde looked at the map. 4 hours. 3 targets. One team. *"Gear up,"* he said. *"We’re going to war."*_To be continued in Part 2..._---*PART 2: KATAMPE GRID - 1000 words*_11:35PM - 12:40AM_ Katampe Hill. National Grid Control. Tunde and 6 operatives moved through the bush. No lights. NVGs on. The facility was surrounded by 15 armed men. Ex-military gear. No patches. *"Plan,"* Tunde whispered. *"We go in quiet. Take the roof first. Cut their comms. Then breach."*They climbed. Rain on their faces. First guard: knife. Silent. Second guard: taser. Down. Third guard turned. _BANG._ Tunde shot him. Suppressed. Inside: chaos. Engineers zip-tied on the floor. *"Where’s the leader?"* Tunde asked one. *"Server room. He’s uploading something."*Tunde kicked the door. 3 men. AKs. Gunfight. 9 seconds. Brass on the floor. Leader was at a laptop. Countdown: *02:58:11* *"You’re too late, Bakare,"* he said. Tunde recognized him. Major Danjuma. Dismissed for corruption. *"Shut it down."* *"Or what? You kill me and the grid still dies at 4AM. It’s automated."*Tunde tackled him. Fight. Gun to Danjuma’s head. *"Where’s the kill switch?"* *"There isn’t one. Unless..."* Danjuma laughed. *"Unless you go to the other sites."*Tunde zip-tied him. *"Get these engineers free. Restore manual power."* He looked at his watch. 3 hours left. Airport next. _To be continued in Part 3..._---*PART 3: THE AIRPLANE - 1000 words*_12:50AM - 2:10AM_ Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport. Dark. Emergency lights only. Flight NG402. 200 passengers. Circling. No radar. No comms. Low fuel. The Falcon Cell had 4 men inside the control tower. Tunde rappelled from a helicopter. Glass shattered. *"SSS! HANDS UP!"* Gunfire. Close quarters. Tunde moved room to room. Took 2 down. Took a bullet to his vest. Breathed hard. Last man had a remote. *"One button and I jam their landing system. They crash."* *"Don’t,"* Tunde said. *"Why? You people don’t care about us!"* Tunde lowered his gun. *"My brother was on a flight like this 5 years ago. Mechanical failure. I couldn’t save him. Let me save these 200."* The man hesitated. Dropped the remote. Tunde grabbed the radio. *"NG402, this is ground. We have visual. Follow my lights. Runway 22. Now."* The plane landed with sparks. Everyone lived. Time: 2:11AM. 1 hour 49 minutes left. Broadcast station last. _To be continued in Part 4..._---*PART 4: ASO BROADCAST - 1000 words*_2:20AM - 3:30AM_ Aso Broadcast Station. This was the trap. 20 Falcon Cell members. Heavy weapons. And hostages. 10 staff. Tunde didn’t have backup. So he went in alone. Through the sewers. Up through a vent. He found the main server. That’s where the "Blackout message" would play at 4AM. A confession video, then demands. Leader was there. Waiting. *"I knew you’d come alone,"* he said. *"Hero complex."* They fought. Hand to hand. Tunde disarmed him, broke his arm. *"Where’s the file?"* *"Already sent to 50 journalists. At 4AM it goes live."* Tunde looked at the laptop. Encrypted. Timer: *00:28:44* He couldn’t hack it. So he did the only thing he could. He pulled the hard drives. Smashed them. Then smashed the backup server. *"No broadcast,"* Tunde panted. *"You lose."* Sirens. Backup arrived. Time: 3:32AM. _To be continued in Part 5..._---*PART 5: AFTERMATH - 1000 words*_3:35AM - 6:00AM_ Daw

The sky was dark. Lightning cut across the sky.Agent Musa got the message: *"Hostages taken at Green Valley Resort. 3 armed men. Go now."*No backup. No time.Musa parked 200 meters away and ran through the bush. Rain on his face. Heart steady. Through the window, he saw it — 3 men with guns. 6 civilians tied to chairs.*"If police come, we start shooting,"* one of them shouted.Musa took a deep breath. Plan forming. He threw a stone at the back window. _Crash!_ All 3 men turned. That was his chance. He kicked the door open and rolled inside. *"Police! Hands up!"* First man fired. Musa ducked. Second man rushed him. Musa disarmed him in 3 moves. Third man grabbed a hostage. *"Let her go,"* Musa said calmly. *"Or what?"* Sirens. Red and blue lights outside. The man panicked and dropped the gun.5 minutes later, all hostages were safe. All 3 men in handcuffs. One of the hostages, an old woman, held Musa’s hand. *"Thank you, my son. You saved us."*Musa just smiled. *"It’s my job, Mama."*Outside, the rain stopped. The sky was clear again.THE END

The alarm in Agent Kemi’s earpiece screamed. *"Bomb will detonate in 60 seconds. Rooftop. Jos City Tower."*Rain was pouring. The city lights blurred below her. She sprinted across the wet rooftop, boots slipping. The target was already there — a black backpack, ticking, sitting next to one man in a mask.He turned, holding a remote. *"Take one more step and we all go up,"* he said.Kemi didn’t stop. She dove, rolled, and kicked the remote out of his hand. It skidded across the roof. *45 seconds.* The man pulled a knife. They clashed. Rain + steel + heavy breathing. He was strong. He almost got her. But Kemi remembered her training. Disarm. Twist. Down.*20 seconds.* She grabbed the backpack. Wires everywhere. Red wire. Blue wire. The manual said cut red first... but that was for the old model. Her hands were shaking. *10... 9... 8...* She thought of her little brother watching cartoons at home. She thought of Jos. She cut the *blue* wire. The ticking stopped. Silence. Just rain.Kemi exhaled, dropped to her knees, and pressed her comms. *"Package secured. City is safe."*From below, sirens started. She had made it with 3 seconds to spare.
