SHADOW HEIR: THE LAST KINGDOM. # STARY WRITING MARATHON
Updated at Jul 17, 2026, 06:46
Shadow Heir: The Last KingdomEpisode 1 – Part 1: The Boy Who Spoke to the StormThe village of Ashvale sat at the edge of the Blackwood Forest, where ancient trees stretched so high that their branches hid the stars. Travelers rarely stopped there. Some claimed the forest whispered at night. Others believed monsters wandered beneath its endless canopy. Whatever the truth, the villagers locked their doors before sunset and never ventured into the woods after dark.Among the people of Ashvale lived a sixteen-year-old orphan named Kael.Kael was different from the others. He had no memory of his parents. The only thing they had left him was a silver pendant shaped like a wolf with glowing blue eyes. The village elder had found him as a baby wrapped in a dark blue blanket outside the gates during a violent thunderstorm.Since then, storms had always followed Kael.Whenever he became angry, clouds gathered. Whenever he cried, rain fell. The villagers whispered that he was cursed."Stay away from that boy," mothers warned their children."He brings disaster.""He was born from the storm itself."Kael pretended not to hear them, but every word left another scar on his heart. He spent most of his days helping old Bram, the village blacksmith. Bram was the only person who had ever treated him like family."You've got strong hands," Bram often said while hammering glowing iron. "One day you'll become the greatest smith in the kingdom."Kael smiled, though deep inside he knew he wanted something more.Every night he dreamed of a castle surrounded by silver mountains. A woman with long white hair smiled at him before disappearing into light. Then he always woke before she spoke.---One cold autumn evening, Kael returned home carrying firewood. The wind felt strange. The birds had stopped singing.Even the forest had become silent.Suddenly...Boom!A bolt of lightning struck the ancient oak tree at the center of the village.People screamed.Three cloaked riders emerged from the smoke on enormous black horses. Each rider wore armor decorated with the symbol of a crimson eye."The Crimson Order..." Elder Rowan whispered in terror. The villagers immediately knelt.Everyone knew the stories. The Crimson Order served the Dark King, a ruler whose armies had conquered nearly every kingdom on the continent.Their leader removed his hood.A scar crossed his pale face."We seek a boy," he announced. "Sixteen years old. Silver pendant. Blue eyes."Kael's heart nearly stopped. How could they know about him?The soldiers searched every house.Bram grabbed Kael's arm."Run.""But—""Now!"Kael sprinted toward Blackwood Forest.Behind him came shouting."There he is!"Hooves thundered across the ground.Branches whipped against his face as he raced deeper into the woods than anyone from Ashvale had ever dared. The forest grew darker.Stranger.The air shimmered with blue mist.At last he reached a cliff overlooking a forgotten valley. There was nowhere left to run.The Crimson riders surrounded him."It's over," the scarred leader said.He drew a black sword."By order of King Malachar, surrender the Wolf Heir."Wolf Heir?Kael had never heard those words before."I don't know what you're talking about.""You will."The captain raised his sword. Before it could fall...The pendant around Kael's neck burst into brilliant blue light. The ground shook violently.Lightning exploded across the sky.A deafening howl echoed through the mountains. From the mist emerged a gigantic silver wolf with glowing blue eyes.It was taller than the tallest horse. Its fur shone like moonlight. The soldiers froze in fear."Impossible..." one whispered."The Guardian still lives."The wolf stood protectively before Kael. Its eyes met his.A voice echoed inside his mind."At last... I have found you."Kael staggered backward."You... can speak?""Not with words. With souls."The wolf turned toward the soldiers. Its growl shook the valley. The horses panicked.Lightning struck the earth around them. The captain shouted, "Retreat! This changes everything!"The Crimson riders fled into the darkness.Silence returned.Kael stared at the magnificent creature."What are you?"The wolf lowered its head."I am Fenris, Guardian of the Royal Bloodline."Kael's breath caught."And you, Kael... are the last prince of the fallen Kingdom of Asteria."The world seemed to stop.A prince? An orphan blacksmith's apprentice?None of it made sense. Before Kael could ask another question, the pendant glowed again.Far beyond the mountains, in the Black Citadel, a man wearing a crown of black iron opened his eyes.King Malachar smiled."So... the heir has awakened."He rose from his throne."Prepare my generals."Outside the citadel, thousands of soldiers gathered beneath crimson banners. The hunt had begun. This is Episode 1 – Part 1. Say "Part 2", and I'll continue the story

*BOOK: THE SECOND NAME*_Genre: Adult Crime Drama / Thriller_---*PROLOGUE: Lagos, 2:14am*The rain hit the roof of the warehouse in Ijora like drums. Tunde had two bags in front of him. One had $400,000 cash. The other had a passport, new name, and a flight to Accra at 6am.His phone buzzed. Unknown number. One text: `You used the wrong name.`He didn’t run. He should have.---*EPISODE 1: THE ACCOUNTANT*Tunde Bello, 38, was not a criminal. He was an accountant. He worked for 3 logistics companies and 2 politicians. He kept the books clean enough to pass audits, dirty enough to keep everyone happy. His wife, Yemi, taught at a private school in Lekki. They had one daughter, Zara, 9. Mortgage, car loan, school fees. Normal life.Until his boss, Chief Akindele, asked him to “move” 2 billion naira through 14 companies in 72 hours. “Election money,” the Chief said. “Temporary.”Tunde did it. Because saying no meant no more contracts. Saying yes meant a bonus big enough to pay off the house.6 months later, EFCC came for the Chief. And the Chief gave them one name to save himself: Tunde Bello.*EPISODE 2: THE DEAL*Tunde wasn’t arrested. He was “invited for questioning.” In a room with no windows, a man named DPO Sule slid a file across the table. Photos. Bank transfers. His signature.“Two options,” Sule said. “Jail. 15 years. Or work for us.”Work for us meant: wear a wire, get back into Akindele’s circle, record everything.Tunde went home and told Yemi half the truth. “Work project. Might be away a bit.”That night he signed papers. New identity: Tunde Balogun. Government protection. And a debt he could never pay.*EPISODE 3: GHOSTS*3 months undercover. Birthday parties, board meetings, church thanksgivings. Tunde recorded everything. The Chief laundering money through rice imports, school contracts, even a hospital. But the deeper he went, the more he saw. The Chief wasn’t the top. There was someone above him. Code name: “Oga.” No photos. Only cash drops.Tunde started making mistakes. He missed Zara’s school play. Yemi asked questions. He lied badly. Then the text: `You used the wrong name.` Someone knew he was Balogun, not Bello. Someone inside EFCC.*EPISODE 4: THE LEAK*The next cash drop was set for the warehouse in Ijora. Tunde was supposed to wear a wire. He went early. Opened the bag. $400,000. And the passport. Someone wanted him gone before the drop.He called Sule. No answer. Called Yemi. Her phone was off.He made a choice. He took the cash and the passport. Not to run. To buy 24 hours. He drove to Nneka, an investigative journalist he met once at a conference. She hated cops and loved stories. “If I give you everything, can you publish it before they kill me?” he asked. She looked at the drive. “This will start a war.”*EPISODE 5: THE WAR*By 6am the story was live: “BILLIONS, POLITICIANS, AND A HOSPITAL.” Names, audio, transfers. By 9am: Chief Akindele denied everything. By noon: EFCC announced an “internal investigation.”By 3pm: Yemi called. Crying. Two men came to the school asking for her.Tunde broke every rule. He went to her. DPO Sule was already there. “You ran,” Sule said. “That makes you guilty.”“You leaked my name,” Tunde said.Sule didn’t deny it. “Oga pays better.”Gunshots outside. Not at them. At the men who came for Yemi. Other EFCC officers. The real ones.*EPISODE 6: THE SECOND NAME*6 months later.Chief Akindele is in jail. “Oga” is still unknown. DPO Sule disappeared.Tunde and Yemi don’t live in Lekki anymore. New city. New jobs. New last name. Not Balogun. Not Bello. Something else.Zara is in a new school. She doesn’t know why they moved. Tunde still does accounting. For small businesses. Cash only. He sleeps with the door locked. One evening he gets an email. No subject. Attachment: a spreadsheet. 14 companies. At the bottom, one line: `Welcome back, Mr. Bello.`He closes the laptop. Looks at Yemi cooking in the kitchen. Looks at Zara doing homework. He deletes the email. But he doesn’t delete the drive Nneka gave back to him. Just in case.*END OF BOOK 1*---*What happens next?*I can keep going with *Book 2: THE OGA* where Tunde has to decide whether to finish what he started, or disappear for good.Do you want me to: 1. *Continue to Book 2* right now and make it even longer2. *Change the genre* - make the next book romance, crime-comedy, or political thriller3. *Help you turn this into an actual book* with chapter titles, word count, and publishing stepsWhich one should we do?
