The Eighth God is Man is a coming-of-age novel with two protagonists who have large weights on their shoulders from an early age. The first and central main character Vajradandaka whose name means Cactus is a prince of a remote country whose main operation is similar to today’s Vatican City. Rtadhra is city where Rta – cosmic order – originates and flows on earth. The solemn duty of the King of Rtadhra is to make this river of duty and Dharma flow to all corners of the world. However, corruption and avarice leads to the death of Vajradhaara (diamond tipped spear), Vajradandaka’s elder brother, the crown prince. Vajradandaka is then forced to take up the throne. During an action packed journey to save his life and his brother’s, Vajra, the cactus, meets Kush, the adventurer, whose name literally means Grass. Kush has a great teacher with a mysterious background as a princess of a fallen faction from the mainland. Ashangi (a divine wish) wants her pupil to lead forces and topple the city state of Amaravati – the heaven on earth – which rules the present world. In a training journey, Kush meets and saves Vajra from certain death. Only after meeting a true royal and watching his grit and determination does Kush resolve to pick up his teacher’s mantle. Bhargava, his teacher’s love interest helps him along the way. Grass always wants to conquer the forest. Cactus always wants to stay at one place to be invincible. This story is about two boys with opposite objectives, still wanting test and compete against each other. In the process, they become the best of friends, as well as deadly enemies. The Eighth God is Man is a novel about the reconciliation of this friendship.
