A friendly and relatively handsome man of 25, Christopher Thomas has a problem: He has no memory of his life before arriving in Saint Louis, Missouri, in 2023. He doesn’t remember his childhood, his parents’ faces, or where he attended school. He doesn’t know why he can’t hold a job longer than one day or why people who have met him claim not to know him the next time they meet. Naturally, he is lonely and confused and frustrated. There is one thing that Christopher does know: he has the power to persuade anyone who hears his voice to do whatever Christopher tells them to do. However, that superpower has a side effect: the person who has been persuaded is compelled to confess their life story. They also explode. Literally and loudly. At the end of a very long day, Christopher finally knows the truth: He is from the year 3023, when humanity exists only on domed cities that float above a flaming and toxic Earth. There, he was created in a laboratory and sent back to the 21st century as a weapon that will change the future for the better. By the end of this day, Christopher, joined by three other laboratory-created rebels from the future, will be stranded in time, though he and his new companions hope to make the world a much better place. What these four refugees adrift in time don’t know is that they are being followed by a posse from the environmentally poisoned world of the future—who like things just the way they are . . . or will be. Maybe.
