Paris, 1941
Twenty-four-year-old Grace Arnett is an African American teacher living and working in France. She enjoys the liberty of the French, the food, the jazz, Josephine Baker and her fiance Henry Dubois. Her life seemed perfect, maybe too perfect. Then 1939 came and her world fell apart. The second Great War had begun, her fiance Henry was deployed abroad and the Nazis had invaded France. Once again she lived in a society that disapproved of her skin. Until she met him, Hans Müller, the problem was he was the enemy. Her life takes a direction that she imagined and she will be left questioning all of her values once she falls in love with an anti-Semitic Nazi, whose personal demons will cost her more than she ever imagined.
