By the will and written command of the elder gods in a kingdom of Šagra practicing magic is a most heinous crime to commit, punishable by death.Only exception is the aging king Nekon XI. and his Purple Council who are practicing the art of summoning divine powers granted to them by gods. They are also the ones who are ruthlessly overseeing the kingdom, making sure that the will of the gods is obeyed. For Mayala and for all of her family magic is not just a ritual to practice. They were born with it, and magic grows stronger with in them the older they get. When fate or ill fortune intervenes and Mayala along with her parents crosses the borders of Šagra kingdom they are stranded in the unhospitable society. Traveling unnoticed among ordinary Šagra people becomes a tumultuous task. Especially since Purple Council is aware of their presence, and is adamant to capture Mayala and her parents and bring them to justice. Young Eje wants to get noticed, and wants to make a name for himself in the Šagra army. Unfortunately he is an orphan. With no noble name he will never get to lead only follow others orders. Or at least so he has been told time and time again. Unexpectedly his wits and blade skills coupled with just a bit of luck gets him the attention he is so desperately craving for. But that comes at a price he was not aware he will need to pay. Mayala and Eje are stark contrast to one another, but their fate is intertwined. Will they aid each other or will they became bitter rivals?
